Churches in Partnership
As members of Uckfield Baptist; Methodist and
United Reformed Churches:
- We acknowledge the rich traditions and
treasured structures which are distinct
to our denominations both as strength and as hindrance.
- We recognise the hurt and suspicion that has
developed through the breakdown of previous conversations and are
sensitive to the fears that are still present and that they need to be
acknowledged and worked through in accordance with the grace that has
been given us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We seek forgiveness for past mistakes, which
may have caused such hurt and especially for the ways in which our
continued division may have hindered the gospel.
In signing this covenant together as the people
of God we move forward in a new journey of affirmation and commitment:
- We affirm our faith in the one God who exists
in a community of love, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We are committed
to demonstrating the love of God through our partnership in the life of
our community.
- We affirm our one calling as disciples of our
Lord Jesus. We are committed to our shared responsibility to make more
disciples through mission and evangelism.
This means that from this moment, our three
congregations as members of this covenant:
- Will look for every opportunity in which our
stated partnership can be visibly demonstrated. This might be through
the initiation of new projects or an examination of how we can help one
another further existing work in the community.
- Will explore ways in which, as one, we can
proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and nurture new enquirers into
the Christian Faith.
- Will welcome and encourage occasions when we
can share in worship and fellowship together in the name of our Lord
and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
- Will in all things commit ourselves to prayer
to discern the will of God as to the future nature and identity of His
Church.
'With this great cloud of witnesses around
us, therefore, we too must throw off every encumbrance and the sin that
all too readily restricts us, and run with resolution the race which
lies ahead of us, our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of
faith..'
Hebrews 12.1-2
